2016 Kids

I had a rather disappointing and unlucky spring. Most of the does that I bred didn't end up pregnant.
Faye kidded first, on May 18th. For her 4th time kidding she had one kid. a beautiful blue eyed doeling. Lacey kidded 10 days later, on the 28th, super early in the morning. It was her first freshening, with two little girls. One with blue eyes! And that's it. Just three adorable little girls this year.
Violet
Faye's baby, Violet, has been sold to Tiny Hill Farm. So I'll be able to see her grown up and see what kids she has when she's bred in a year or so.

Faye's kid, Violet

Lacey's kids

Tawny

I still have Lacey's kids and am bottle feeding them to make them extra friendly.
Lacey didn't want anything to do with them when they were born, so I've been mamma goat since the first day! They are the cutest little things.

Margaret and Thornton

Faye kidded yesterday While I was working at the Library. My mom and sister delivered them. Margaret is the Buckskin and Thornton is black and white. I'm very tempted to be keeping Margaret. Faye's udder is even more amazing than it was last year. Either way, she's not going any where very soon. They are both very lively for only just being borne. Unlike Matilda's babies, who are still quite mellow. Thornton is really shy but already playing with the other kids!
Fezzik and Vezzini left last night. I do miss them a little, but Buttercup, Westley, Margaret, and Thornton are more than enough to keep me occupied.

Evening in the Barn

I was Milking Matilda and I turned my head and  something about the way my new couple bales of hay looked caught my eye...I hollered to Mary who was playing with her chick and asked her if she'd get me the camera. I took the picture using a lot of different settings. I think they came out nicely but they are dark (it was late in the evening as I was milking).

I did some with flashes because of how dark the others were but I really don't like the look the flash gives to pictures

The babies were watching me through their stall door (you can see one of them in the middle dark one) and wanted attention so I messed around with my camera some more and took some pictures of them through the wire.

Before and After - FAYE

I posted two pictures of after because her head wasn't in the one that showed her body best.
Can you believe it's the same goat!?

Shaved Goats

We got all the goats clipped for the summer. It will make Tilly's cart training easier in multiple ways. The harness will no longer pull at her fur and she will be a lot cooler. She gets so hot in the summer. Now I have pictures of them clipped but I completely forgot to take before pictures so I will just pull up some old ones. I only remembered to take "in the process" pictures of Faye.

Faye
I put the milking stand in a bush so they could eat to occupy themselves! Get's their mind off the clipping!
Don't you just LOVE my milking stand!? It was my Birthday present from my grand mother! It's AWESOME!!!!
I was very surprised when I shaved the buckskins...They completely changed colors! All those white spots onLeibchen were dark brown! The same thing happened with Faye witch you'll be able to see in the before and after pictures- I'll post those in their own posts. it will make it easier on my part.

Here are more pictures of my babies! I took them away from the mom today and bottle fed them. they both accepted the bottle just fine. Tilly's not to crazy about being away from her babes. She and her 'sisters' are in the back pen while the babies are in the front pen, Tilly keeps hollering to her kids. It's heart breaking to hear but she'll get over it quickly.
Top is Leia, Bottom is Leabchen
 Both Leibchen
Left is Leia right is Leibchen.
You remember these coats? they are the same ones I had on Faye! The blue and green one I got at the same place that I got the plaid ones.
Let's not forget Faye! Shes a great big sister! She's already teaching them how to head butt, jump around, and nibble grass! Shes 8 weeks old now and weaned. At 6 weeks she wanted nothing to do with her bottle and was eating grain, hay, and greens like the big goats. Faye and Pippi are Best Buddies. They are escaping nearly every day and both very hefty! Though I'm not worried about them escaping because I know they wont go far from the herd.

Faye's new Scottish Attire

We went to IKEA in Massachusetts while visiting my grandmother, they had a stuffed dog and to go with it you could buy clothes for 99 cents each... I took one look at them and said to my self "Goat Clothes!" So here's Faye in her new stylin' Scottish clothes!

Gideon and Hans

Faye has been very lonely being the only kid on the farm, And the "Adults" didn't really want her hanging out with them. So to help her be less lonely I have borrowed two wethers from Larissa to keep her company.
Larissa doesn't usually name her wethers... I told her that if any nameless animal was coming to my house that it would end up with a "Nick Name"! She was okay with that!

First we had Gideon (Or Gid!). Him and Hans are Tilly's brothers (Different dad, same mother), Gideon looked a lot like her... in the face any way!
Gideon and Faye got along great but he has a new home now. He's been adopted by some one who wants to bring him on her walks every day! I think he'll be happy!
I will miss Gid!

Me and Hans!

Just today Hans came to stay with his half sis' for a while. Same dad, different mum! It get's very confusing! But don't worry... there's no inbreeding!
I really haven't gotten to know Hans yet. Faye seems to like him and My mom really likes him! She picked the name. His coloring and markings are very pretty, but I have to say I like Gideon's temperament!

Here's Faye and Hans

Faye Again

I took Faye out side today with the herd. It was such a beautiful day today and I wanted to see what Matilda and Pippi thought of her. They both gently head butt her a little at first. I was going to go scold them but decided that they weren't hurting her and they had to learn to accept her and she had to learn how to be in a herd. Eventually they stooped butting and only gave her warnings if she came too close. I was happy with how Faye was fitting in and how healthy she was acting.
Annika is a good mommy but not the best I've seen. I've heard of mommies who protect their baby kids and stay by them all the time. Annika lets her nurse and cleans her when she's dirty but other than that she would much rather be with the herd! That's okay though, I think she'll get better, this is just her first time kidding.

Okay, so so far all I've posted on here is my new baby...you all must think This is a pretty boring blog! Don't worry, I will eventually post more!

Meet Faye

March 9th, 2012, 10:30 (ish) AM Annika brought Faye into the world.
Momma and I slept down stairs all night listening to the baby monitor. Annika was very kind to us and had her babe during the day! It's one of the first babies we've ever had born that wasn't in the middle of the night or 3 AM!
Faye is Annika's first and only baby. She only had one.

I apologize for the bad quality of the pictures.

Annika didn't really have many contractions, and certainly not strong ones. I ended up helping her at the end cause she seemed to think she was done. It was SUCH a great experience, and I'll never forget helping to bring this baby into the world.

After Annika did some cleaning of the baby we brought Faye inside. She was wet and shivering, we wanted to get her dry. Her and I sat in the sunlight in our big window so she could dry and warm up. Sadie helped to clean her and Lila rubbed noses with her. I think the puppy has taken over role of Auntie!

I'll post some better pictures when I get them.
